The most difficult story I’ve written to date is my UF novel Quarter Square (which is subbed somewhere exciting at the moment). It was purely a craft thing, because I experimented with rapid first-drafting and it really didn’t work for me. The resulting mess took me far longer to clean up than if I’d taken normal care and attention over writing a good draft from the off. And I still had to play around with changing POV a couple of times before I was happy with the shape of it. That novel took me two years to get to submission quality, instead of the year it would have taken if I’d stuck to writing the way I know works for me.
